1)Job Purpose

  • To operate as a member of a small team in order to run a youth club for girls and young women. You will work directly with young people as individuals and in groups.
  • To assist with the delivery of a youth work programme to meet the needs of young women to improve communication skills improve knowledge of sexual health increase self-esteem and aspirations – particularly in education and employment
  • To deliver a programme with young women which is enjoyable, creative, and empowering.

3)    Primary Duties and Areas of Responsibility

  • To establish, maintain and develop relationships with young women in order to increase self-esteem, communication skills, and knowledge of sexual health where appropriate.
  • To encourage young people to actively initiate, plan, deliver and evaluate their activities, therefore empowering them.
  • To encourage young women to take part in activities.
  • To positively promote, and encourage participation of young women in the youth club. As this is a new concept, this may involve outreach work initially.
  • Where necessary provide appropriate Sexual health guidance including distribution of condoms, pregnancy testing, and Chlamydia screening.
  • To work within the Fraser guidelines in relation to sexual health.
  • To ensure a safe environment for young people, and promote and implement the Centre’s Health and safety policy at all times.
  • To ensure security, and confidentiality in relation to young women, including any record keeping in accordance with the Data protection Act
  • To Assist with Monitoring including maintaining records, Statistical information, planning, and evaluation, and providing Oral or written feedback were required.
  • To work within the guidelines of the Women’s centre, and comply with relevant policies and procedures including equal opportunities, ensuring that the needs of all young people are met sensitive to race, disability, and sexual orientation, and challenge and eradicate direct or indirect discrimination.

4) Health and Safety/Risk Management

The jobholder must comply, at all times, with Preston Road Women’s Centre Health and Safety policies, in particular, by following agreed safe working procedures and reporting incidents using the organisation’s Incident Reporting System.

5) Equality and Diversity

The jobholder must co-operate with all policies and procedures designed to ensure equality of employment.  Co-workers, service users and visitors must be treated equally, irrespective of ethnic origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion etc.

6) Training and Personal Development – Continuous Professional Development

The jobholder must take responsibility, in agreement with the management committee, for her own personal development, by ensuring that Continuous Professional Development remains a priority.  The jobholder will undertake all mandatory training required for the role.

7) Respect for Service users’ Confidentiality

The jobholder should respect service users’ confidentiality at all times and not divulge their information, unless sanctioned, by the requirements of the role.

8)    Key Result Areas

Specific objectives for the post holder will be agreed through the process of regular Individual Performance Review meetings with the Women’s Centre management committee

To work in partnership and act as the interface with staff within the women’s centre and external organisations, to ensure that services are delivered in a coherent and consistent way

10)    Special Working Conditions

There is a requirement for flexibility in working hours, were necessary e.g., to be able to attend meetings outside the normal working day and adjust hours, as required, to meet specific deadlines

1.    NJC Pay scale        SCP 22

2.    Salary            Payable monthly in arrears by Bank Credit Transfer

3.        Hours of Work    0 hours per week (sessional work to be agreed by negotiation)

4.    Pension Scheme    The organisation offers a stakeholder pension and employer’s contribution to this pension or a nominated personal pension scheme at 5% of the employee’s salary.

5.    Annual Leave    The leave entitlement for this post is pro rata

The annual leave year runs from 1 April to 31 March.

6.    Special Conditions    The postholder may be required to work irregular hours on occasions in order to satisfactorily fulfil the requirements of the post.

7.    Sickness Absence    Employees absent from work owing to illness will be entitled, subject to the conditions of the agreement, to receive sick pay in accordance with the guidelines described in the organisation’s standard contract.

Data Protection Act 1998 and Confidentiality

All members of the staff are bound by the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998 and any breaches of the Act or of the confidential nature of the work of this post could lead to dismissal.

Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974

Because of the nature of the work, this post may be exempt from the provisions of Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975.  Under these circumstances applicants for the post are not entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are “spent” under the provisions of the Act and in the event of employment, any failure to disclose such convictions may result in disciplinary action or dismissal by the organisation.

Any information given will be completely confidential and will be considered only in relation to an application for a position to which the order applies.

Disclosure of Criminal Background – Criminal Records Bureau

The Criminal Records Bureau is an executive agency of the Home Office which exercises the powers and fulfils the responsibilities of the Secretary of State under Part V of the Police Act 1997. In order to minimise any possible risk of abuse to children or vulnerable adults or if a post is a position of trust a check will be made with the Criminal Records Bureau (‘Bureau’) on the possible criminal background of the successful candidate for the post.

There are two levels of Disclosure service checks initially – Standard and Enhanced.

A Standard Disclosure check is primarily for: “Any employment or other work which is concerned with the provision of health services and which is of such a kind as to enable the holder of that employment or the person engaged in that work to have access to persons in receipt of such services in the course of her normal duties’.  This check may also be used for occupations that involve positions of trust.

An Enhanced Disclosure check will be undertaken for a post, which involves a greater degree of contact with children or vulnerable adults.

Any information disclosed will be treated in the strictest confidence and all circumstances will be taken into account before any decision is reached.  The successful candidate will be asked to complete a Disclosure Application Form for a Bureau check to be carried out, although applicants should be aware that a refusal to comply with this procedure may prevent further consideration for the post.
